Alpakita has been designing its own baby clothes in many sizes for boys and girls for over ten years. The first knitted models were created in the "Kinderstube-Goldtröpfchen" in Berlin Charlottenburg and the kids there still wear knitted wool clothes today. We can therefore say from experience that children like to wear soft knitted clothes that don't scratch, are comfortable to wear and are also robust. Why is baby skin much more sensitive?
At birth, babies' skin is not as functional as adult skin. The development of the skin takes longer than many people think until puberty. During this time, the skin, as the largest sensory organ, is more sensitive. Why is that? Babies' skin is very thin, which means that moisture is lost quickly. In adults, the sebaceous and sweat glands produce an important acid protective layer, but in babies the glands do not work as well. There is also a lack of pigment-forming substances. In addition, the surface of baby skin is twice as large as ours, which means that the small body has a large surface area to attack.
This makes the skin of newborns sensitive:
More sensitive to pathogens because the acid mantle is not yet strong enough.
Moisture can be absorbed and released more quickly through the thin stratum corneum, which can lead to dry skin.
More sensitive to stimuli, such as clothing. This is due to the thin cornea (epidermis).
Unprotected from UV radiation as there are hardly any pigments.
Drier because the sebaceous glands are not yet functioning sufficiently.
Poor regulation of body temperature, which can quickly lead to overheating.
